Snowshoe hiking Allgäu

Allgäu: Popular tour to Wertacher Hörnle

The destination of this easy snowshoe tour, which is also well suited for beginners, is the Wertacher Hörnle. The 1695 m high elevation lies on the northern edge of the Allgäu Alps between Bad Hindelang and Wertach. The starting point of the tour is Unterjoch (car park on the B310). In normal conditions, the avalanche danger is classified as low. In addition, the ascent and descent route is on gently to moderately steep south and southeast slopes, which are framed by forest on both sides. The descent route corresponds to the ascent..

Allgäu: Panoramic tour with views of the Allgäu mountains

The hike to the Immenstädter Horn is one of the most popular activities in the region. A varied landscape awaits the hiker, which makes the 800-metre ascent quite entertaining. In winter, this tour is particularly attractive as a snowshoe tour, as it opens up previously unknown vistas and views. For example, the frozen Alpsee.

ROMANTIC tip: Snowshoes, telescopic poles and gaiters can be hired for a small fee at the valley station of the Mittagbahn cable car.

Hotel tip in the Allgäu:

The Romantik Hotel Freiberg is refreshingly different. With chic design rooms, Freiberg SPA, year-round heated outdoor pool and unique culinary diversity. From the star-awarded gourmet restaurant to trendy lifestyle cuisine and fine dining, a world of culinary delight

Achensee

Tyrol: Snowshoe Hiking in Pertisau at Achensee

Around Pertisau, the Karwendel valleys are ideal terrain for beginners on snowshoes. At the entrance to the Gerntal and Falzthurntal valleys, the terrain is flat and snow-sure. If handling the snowshoes on the flat works well, there is an upgrade: a snowshoe hike to the Bärenbadalm. The trail leads from Pertisau on the Achensee or from the mountain station of the Zwölferkopf cable car.
Yet another snowshoe hike up the mountain in Pertisau can be planned by persevering recreational athletes to the Feilkopf on Lake Achensee - a super spot with a summit cross and top views of the Karwendel mountains

Tannheimer valley

Tyrol: Adventure hiking in the unspoilt Tyrolean mountains

On snowshoes, you will enter the winter realm of the Tannheimer Tal. The Lohmoos-Runde is a particularly beautiful trail that leads through the Lohmoos, a high moor. It is not cleared and is therefore ideal for snowshoe hikes through the snow-covered landscape. Starting from Tannheim, the high trail leads along the foot of the Einstein to Zöblen. Another highlight of the tour is the Zugspitz view: To enjoy this view, turn left at Häldeler Berg and follow the further signs to the panoramic view. A total of 12 kilometres and around 420 metres in altitude are covered on this loop, which is also suitable for families.

Hotel tip:

The traditional and family-run Romantik Alpenhotel Waxenstein is located in the Zugspitz village of Grainau. Here you have the opportunity to hike through the beautiful nature and enjoy the relaxing mountain air.

Berchtesgadener Land

Berchtesgadener Land: From Bad Reichenhall over the Lattengebirg mountain range

After the ascent with the Predigtstuhl cable car, the tour leads towards the Schlegelmulde and up to the Hochschlegel, then on to the Karkopf and over the Törlkopf back to Winkl / Bischofswiesen. The eventful winter hike offers a varied landscape with surprising views. With snowshoes, the almost 10 km long tour takes 4 to 5 hours, inexperienced ones need correspondingly longer.

Harz

Harz: In deep snow through the Upper Harz Mountains

Discover the Oberharz winter forest on a snowshoe hike - what could be more beautiful? One of the most beautiful hiking tours leads along an old railway line from Altenau to Clausthal-Zellerfeld (approx. 6 km long). Snowshoe hiking promises special fun for all ages on the hiking trail in Hahnenklee, which is only 2 km long. To try snowshoeing for yourself, the local ski rental shop has snowshoes and other equipment (also for children) available for rent.

Hotel tip:

The Romantik Hotel Braunschweiger Hof has its own hotel park, which borders the Harz National Park. Cosy rooms and spacious suites in country house style with individual charm invite you to stay. After an active day of hiking, golfing or in the hotel's wellness area, the Behnecke restaurant will spoil you with regional specialities.

South Tyrol valley

South Tyrol: Alpine hiking in the Vinschgau Valley - pure pleasure

The snowshoe hike to the Reschner Alm starts at the foot of the Pofellift near Reschen. Take trail no. 6 to the end of the toboggan run. From there, take trail no. 5 on the right to the bridge, continue across the clearing to the Pofel meadows. At the fence, turn left and follow the somewhat steep and narrow hiking trail in the forest. At the next clearing, follow the newly laid path to the Reschner Alm. There, at 2020 metres, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the valley floor and the Reschensee lake as well as the surrounding mountains.

An idyllic snowshoe tour with gentle gradients, beautiful spots and magnificent alpine panorama. This tour leads from the former Krugmoar hut via Ochsenstand and Steinerner Miarz via Zapflhütte and Altes Almhaus back again. A magnificent alpine panorama awaits the snow hiker at many stops, for example on the Hirschegger-Alm mountain range with Peterer-Riegel, Speikkogel, Ammering and Rappold. Those who do not want to hike the entire round can also walk from the Steinerne Miarz directly to the Alter Almhaus.

Semmering railway

Viennese Alps: Snowshoe Hiking at Semmering

Hiking the landscape of the Semmering Railway World Heritage Site on snowshoes is one of the special winter experiences. The railway hiking trail along the Semmering Railway offers repeated views of the legendary engineering structures of this first mountain railway in the world. After starting at Semmering railway station, the first highlight awaits the hiker: the Doppelreiterwarte, from where you have a beautiful view of the Adlitzgraben. The trail continues along the railway to the famous Kalte Rinne Viaduct.
This snowshoe hike has a lot to offer, it should not be underestimated with a length of about 20 kilometres and a walking time of about 6 hours. Good physical condition required.

Schwitzerland
