Salzburg

STAGE 1: FROM SALZBURG TO BISCHOFSHOFEN

A very good level of fitness is required on the first stage, as the route is demanding and has a total ascent of 540 metres in altitude. It leads from the starting point in Salzburg via Hallein, Golling an der Salzach, Salzachöfen, Hohenwerfen Fortress to Bischofshofen. With a total stage length of 58.1 kilometres, there are some sections with loose ground. On average, a duration of more than four hours can be planned for the pure travel time.

Tip: Plan your cycling tour extensively and also consider the many highlights along the way in your planning.

Bad Gastein

STAGE 2: FROM BISCHOFSHOFEN TO BAD GASTEIN

The second stage of the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path takes you from Bischofshofen 55.1 kilometres to Bad Gastein and is one of the difficult stages due to a total ascent of 1200 metres in altitude. A very good level of fitness is required on the mainly paved paths. With an average speed of 12 km/h you will reach Bad Gastein after about 4.5 hours.

The stage passes Sankt Johann im Pongau, the Liechtensteinklamm, which is considered a hiking highlight, the Gasteiner Klammtunnel as well as the Klammstein Castle and the Gasteiner Badesee, which is a good place to cool off on hot days. The stage continues to the lookout point at the waterfall and finally ends in idyllic Bad Gastein.

On the way on the bike

STAGE 3: BAD GASTEIN TO SPITTAL AT THE DRAU

The easy to moderately difficult third stage leads for about 55 kilometres from Bad Gastein to Spittal an der Drau, past the Czernin hunting lodge and through the Tauern Tunnel, which is comfortably passed by train in just eleven minutes. Arriving on the other side of the tunnel in Mallnitz, the route continues along the old railway embankment, past Trabuschgen Castle via Obervellach to Spittal an der Drau. At a speed of about 16 km/h, you will reach your destination for the day after about 3.5 hours.

Hotel tip at Millstätter sea

At the beautiful Millstätter sea, it is recommended to interrupt the cycling tour for a stay and to let yourself be pampered in the SPA area of the Romantik SPA Hotel Seefischer At Sea in Döbriach after an active day. The Romantik Hotel is located in Döbriach in an unspoilt bay with the hotel's own marina. The hotel is an ideal starting point for its guests all year round, whether it is a swimming holiday in summer, a hiking holiday or a skiing holiday in winter. Stage 5 "FROM VILLACH TO TARVIS": The moderately difficult fifth stage covers a distance of 39.3 kilometres and leads from Villach to Tarvis. You should have a good basic level of fitness for the 410 metres of altitude gain up to the Arnoldstein monastery castle and the Straßfried peak and finally across the border into Italy.
