The island of Rügen is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Germany. In the picturesque old town of Bergen, harmony, tradition, warmth and hospitable comfort characterise the special flair of the hotel and its 100-year history. Just as nostalgic as the entire hotel ensemble is the Kontor restaurant with its various historical experience areas and excellent cuisine.

Gastgeber Michael Hermerschmidt

Your host

On the island of Rügen, in the heart of Bergen's old town, lies the Romantik Hotel Kaufmannshof. The four-star hotel is a traditional family business whose roots go back to 1906. At that time, Paul Hermerschmidt founded a grocery and delicatessen business. Today, great-grandson Michael Hermerschmidt is the hotel's host and runs the house with great cordiality. Personal service, regional ties and the preservation of historical tradition are his concerns, which he combines with modern comfort and zeitgeist.

Nostalgic specialities!

Restaurant „Kontor“
Kontor

The delicatessen business of the ancestors is still noticeable today in the kitchen of the Kaufmannshof. The menu is a potpourri of culinary treasures. In addition to local fish dishes, seafood and down-to-earth dishes, exotic specialities are also served. The sophisticated Kaufmannshof cuisine places great emphasis on regionality. You can dine in the Kontor or in the atmospheric winter garden with a view of the greenery. The beer garden under the courtyard lime tree is also an option in fine weather.

Around the hotel

Kreidefelsen in den Nationalpark Jasmund
Chalk cliffs

The scenic diversity and uniqueness make Rügen one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in Germany. A trip to the Jasmund National Park, which includes the Stubnitz beech forest and the famous Rügen chalk cliffs, is not only worthwhile for nature lovers. Caspar David Friedrich was inspired by the chalk cliffs in particular, and many poets and thinkers were also inspired by the landscape of Rügen. In 2011, UNESCO included the Jasmund National Park in the list of World Natural Heritage Sites.
