At the top of the popular Bairro de Alfama district in Lisbon, a number of traditional Portuguese houses can be found within the walls of São Jorge Castle. Among them is the Romantik Hotel Solar Do Castelo, which fascinates thanks to its medieval architecture. The small 18th-century palace rises where the old kitchens of the Alcáçovas Palace used to be. In a place of legends and the "souls of princes", the gates open to the noble courtyard where the magnificent blue of peacocks prevails. A tranquil refuge framed by tile work from the "Pombaline" period, typical of Lisbon.

Your hosts

Three Portuguese families joined forces to develop a new hotel brand that could promote national heritage among their visitors. They started with 3 old buildings in the centre of Lisbon and their restoration: As Janelas Verdes, Hotel Britania and Lisboa Plaza. Only a few years later they invested in 2 more projects: Solar do Castelo in 2001 and Heritage Avenida Liberdade in 2007. 

The small 18th century palace rises where the old kitchens of the Alcáçovas Palace used to be. In a place of legends and the "souls of princes", the gates open to the noble courtyard where peacock blue predominates.

The enchanting Castelo courtyard

Discover the charming courtyard and garden of the Romantik Hotel Solar do Castelo, which still has all the historical traces. Among other things, the existing cistern and museological objects found during the elaborate restorations are testimonies to the more than eight centuries of history of the magnificent Castelo. In the inner courtyard, guests marvel at the magnificent peacocks that stroll around the grounds.

The Romantik Boutique Hotel Solar do Castelo is the only hotel within the walls of São Jorge Castle, high atop the charming Alfama old town.

For arrival by car, please use the navigation system. 

From Lisbon Santa Apolónia train station, take bus line 734 towards Martim Moniz and get off at the Voz Operário stop, just a few stops away. From there, walk for about 10-15 minutes the remaining 750 metres to the hotel. 

Lisbon airport is about 8km away and easily accessible by bus and train. 

For a particularly convenient journey, please feel free to contact us and we will arrange a private transfer for you. We can then pick you up at the castle gate with our golf cart.
