Vacation routes are themed travel routes that lead through regions of particular interest. They combine cultural, scenic or historical highlights and invite you to discover new areas in a relaxed way - usually by car, motorcycle or motorhome. Some vacation routes only last 2-3 days; longer routes take at least two weeks.
Vacation routes can often be categorized thematically or geographically:
Cultural routes: e.g. German Half-Timbered Road, Castle Road
Nature routes: e.g. Alpine Road, German Avenue Road
Pleasure routes: e.g. German Wine Route, Beer and Cheese Routes
Historical routes: e.g. Romanesque Route, Fairytale Route

Route: The term “route” generally refers to the planned route from A to B - whether for a day's stage or an entire journey.
Tour: A tour is usually a round trip or a themed journey (e.g. motorcycle tour, bicycle tour) that includes several stops.
Vacation route: A vacation route is a predetermined, often signposted route that runs through scenic or culturally interesting areas.
