Juliane Eller Wines: When Values Connect
Some partnerships are born not just from an idea, but from a shared philosophy. From a similar understanding of enjoyment, provenance and responsibility. That is exactly how our new collaboration with winemaker Juliane Eller and her JUWEL wines feels. For what unites us are not just wines with character – but, above all, values: sustainability, craftsmanship, tradition, regionality and the deep conviction that true quality takes time.
A winemaker with a vision
In the heart of Rheinhessen, in the small wine-growing village of Alsheim, a remarkable story began in 2013. At just 23 years of age, Juliane Eller took over her parents’ winery – a bold move and, at the same time, a great vote of confidence. Rather than simply continuing to run the business as before, she opted for a clear shift in direction: fewer grape varieties, higher quality, and greater craftsmanship. From around 35 grape varieties, she narrowed the selection down to five, which now take centre stage. At the same time, the winery is gradually switching to selective hand-picking – a clear commitment to precision, patience and quality. The name JUWEL was chosen deliberately. It combines Juliane Eller’s first and last names with the ‘W’ for wines – and at the same time describes her philosophy. For her, grapes are raw gemstones that only become true jewels through careful work.
Sustainability as a commitment in action
What binds us together in particular is a shared understanding of sustainability. For Juliane Eller, sustainable viticulture means working with nature – not against it. Vineyards are viewed as living ecosystems, resources are used thoughtfully, and biodiversity is actively promoted. Since 2023, the winery has been FAIR'N GREEN certified – a comprehensive sustainability standard that combines environmental, economic and social aspects. Sustainability is also a key consideration in logistics and production: lighter glass bottles, recycled materials, solar panels on the roofs and climate-conscious shipping are just a few examples.
A common stance
Here at Romantik® Hotels & Restaurants, too, sustainability is evident in the day-to-day operations of many of our hotels: through close collaboration with regional producers, short supply chains and a cuisine that follows the seasons. Many of our establishments use renewable energy, maintain their own gardens or greenhouses, and make conscious investments in sustainable infrastructure – from solar panels to electric vehicle charging points. At the same time, it is always about taking responsibility towards our staff, guests and the local region, as well as fostering a respectful and diverse community spirit within the Romantik® family. We are proud to be helping to shape a sustainable future.
We at Romantik® visited Juliane Eller at her vineyard in Alsheim... A perfect match.
Preserving tradition – shaping the future
Viticulture is one of Europe’s oldest crafts. Vines grow over decades, vineyards are tended across generations, and every vintage tells its own story. For the founder of JUWEL Weine, too, wine is far more than a product – it is part of a cultural heritage. Today, winemakers increasingly see themselves as custodians of the cultural landscape, as people who work with and in nature and preserve it for future generations. Romantik® shares precisely this understanding. Many of the mostly family-run estates are located in historic buildings – in castles, old manor houses or listed buildings that tell stories from centuries past. Here, tradition does not mean standing still, but rather the responsibility to preserve values whilst developing them further: tradition meets modernity.
Craftsmanship, Origin & Region
What also particularly unites JUWEL’s wines and the Romantik® philosophy is a love of craftsmanship. In the vineyard, this begins with meticulous work in harmony with nature, deliberately reduced yields, and the decision to harvest only healthy grapes. In the cellar, this results in wine with character and provenance. In the excellent kitchens of the Romantik® Hotels, too, culinary delight stems from precisely this approach: from regional ingredients, from respect for the product, and from the conviction that quality arises where people work with passion.
Mindful enjoyment
Another belief unites us: enjoyment means responsibility. Juliane Eller is involved in the Wine in Moderation initiative, which promotes mindful and moderate wine consumption. Wine should accompany special moments – as part of a culture that combines tradition, conviviality and a zest for life. At Romantik® too, it is precisely this moment that takes centre stage: a glass of wine with a regional menu, an evening on the terrace with a view of the countryside, or a special occasion shared with loved ones.
Special moments, special stories. A partnership with a future.
In the end, it is often the small, special moments that linger in the memory: that first glass of wine at sunset on the terrace of a local hotel, a long dinner featuring regional specialities, or a conversation with people who share a passion for craftsmanship and fine dining.
It is precisely these kinds of experiences that arise where origin, personality and quality come together. The wines from JUWEL Weine tell stories of soils, vintages and decisions made in the vineyard – of hot summers, cool nights and the patience required to transform grapes into wines of great character. Behind every bottle lies a year of nature and a team working with dedication.
New stories also unfold every day at Romantik® Hotels & Restaurants. Stories of hosts who have often run their establishments for generations, of chefs who collaborate with local producers, and of guests who experience special moments – whether at a festive dinner, a weekend in the mountains or a stroll through historic old towns.
When such worlds come together, experiences are created that go far beyond a good glass of wine. They connect people, places and memories – and turn enjoyment into something that is not only tasted, but also experienced.
The collaboration between Romantik® Hotels & Restaurants and JUWEL Wines is the meeting of two philosophies that complement each other naturally: the appreciation.

JUWEL wines are quality wines from Rheinhessen. The exact timing of the harvest depends on various factors, such as the grape variety, the weather and the optimal ripeness of the grapes. Early-ripening varieties are often harvested as early as the beginning of September, although each vintage varies greatly. This is precisely what makes this time of year – when it all comes down to the perfect moment – so special.
The wines produced by Juliane Eller and her winery, JUWEL Weine, are based on classic grape varieties from Rheinhessen.
The focus is primarily on Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, complemented by Pinot Noir for rosé or red wines.
This uncompromising focus on these varieties stems from a conscious decision: after taking over the family winery, Juliane Eller significantly reduced the previously very wide variety of grapes and concentrated on a few varieties that are particularly typical of the region, in order to clearly bring out their character and produce wines of precise quality.
Sustainability plays a central role for Juliane Eller and her JUWEL Weine. Her approach is based on natural viticulture, the responsible use of resources and a holistic sustainability concept.
Since 2023, the JUWEL Weine winery has been certified to the FAIR’N GREEN sustainability standard. This certification assesses the ecological, economic and social aspects of viticulture – from environmental protection and biodiversity to fair working conditions and long-term economic responsibility.
In the vineyard, Juliane Eller focuses on natural cultivation methods, for example by avoiding the use of herbicides and organic fertilisers and employing targeted cover crop management. In addition, hand-picking is increasingly used instead of mechanical harvesting to ensure only healthy grapes are processed and to produce high-quality wines sustainably.
For Juliane Eller, sustainability means above all not consuming more resources than can be replenished, and viewing viticulture as a long-term responsibility towards nature, the landscape and future generations.
