The world-famous Andechs Monastery is a popular excursion destination in the Fünfseenland region and just a short hike from the Romantik Hotel Chalet am Kiental. Founded in the 15th century, Andechs Monastery is the oldest place of pilgrimage in Bavaria. The monastery brewery is one of the last monastery breweries that is still run independently by the Benedictine order. On a signposted circular route of around 9 kilometres from Herrsching to the monastery and back, you can enjoy green landscapes and well-maintained footpaths through woods and meadows.

Sissi spent a large part of her youth in Possenhofen Castle on the west side of Lake Starnberg.  If you want to learn more about Empress Elisabeth and her connection to the region, visit the Empress Elisabeth Museum in Possenhofen. 

In the early 20th century, the young Expressionists from Munich came here to capture nature in powerful colours and forms. Emil Nolde and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner were here before they became members of the Dresden artists' community "Brücke". The artists of the "Blaue Reiter" (Blue Rider) Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc, Alexej von Jawlensky and Heinrich Campendonk had particularly close ties to the region. In the "MuSeenLandschaft Expressionismus", experiencing nature and enjoying art enter into a unique combination: The Buchheim Museum der Phantasie attracts people to Lake Starnberg with its world-famous Expressionists; at Lake Kochelsee, the Franz Marc Museum  offers exquisite art experiences around its namesake; on the Staffelsee, the Schloßmuseum Murnau attracts visitors with the "Blue Rider" Max Beckmann, Ödön von Horváth, Marianne von Werefkin and Gabriele Münter; near the Osterseen, the Museum Penzberg draws attention with Campendonk, and in Munich, the Lenbachhaus the world's largest collection of works by the "Blue Rider".

If you miss the hustle and bustle of the big city, you can reach the center of Munich in about 50 minutes without a car thanks to the well-developed S-Bahn connection. Smaller, quieter and just as worth seeing is Landsberg am Lech with its medieval old town and its well-preserved city wall. You can reach this ccharming little town in about 35 minutes by car.

In the Starnberg-Ammersee region, 9 beautiful top-level golf courses await you within a radius of only 25 kilometres. "In the middle of the five lakes region is a golfing jewel" writes the Green Golfmagazin Bayerischer Golfverband: The picturesquely situated 18-hole golf club of Starnberg  is one of only 8 golf schools in Germany to bear the seal of quality as a PGA premium golf school and is member of the "Leading Golf Clubs of Germany".

This includes services such as room hire and technical equipment, but also drinks, tea biscuits and a light three-course lunch menu.
