Far and wide the silent king gazes over his realm – forest as far as the eye can see, and again: forest. It has been so since the beginning of time, and so it will remain. In the Witzenhausen valley, 150,000 cherry trees are in bloom in spring, and much old custom has remained alive in the Knüllgebirge. Sounds too romantic and fairy-tale-like? Well, it is not without reason that the Brothers Grimm were out and about here as collectors of fairy tales – and if we call it an "outdoor paradise", then it is clear that on holiday in the Hessisches Bergland there is endlessly much opportunity to explore one of Germany's largest forest areas actively by mountain bike, by kayak or on foot.
