Romantik Hotel Walk’sches Haus: Enjoy centuries-old history, modern taste and cordial hospitality in Southern Germany

The traditional wine-growing municipality Weingarten is located in the southern part of the Kraichgau, only 15 km north-east of Karlsruhe. With its more than 1000 years old history, the town possesses its own special charm. The small streets invite you to linger and stroll around, and especially visitors interested in culture and art history will enjoy the historic centre. Besides the two churches and the Wartturm tower, one of the most famous buildings is the “Walk’sches Haus” (“House of Walk”) right at the market place which has been a Romantik Hotel & Restaurant since 2001.

The building that is now home to the Romantik Hotel Walk’sches Haus was constructed in 1701. Back then, the builder attached great importance to the used material, expensive, old oak tree baulks, which nowadays give the hotel its unique historic appearance.
While the building impresses with its history, the restaurant wows its guests with light, young, exciting dishes and modern excellence: 16 Points and 2 Toques by Gault Millau, 1 Michelin Star and a number of further awards attest to the extraordinary quality of the gourmet restaurant. Matching the geographical location (only 45 minutes by car to reach the border), both regional and French influences can be found in the menu. The second restaurant, the “Bistro”, welcomes you with more regional dishes from Baden.
A visit to the restaurant is completed by the right glass of wine, selected from the variety of the large wine cellar which contains both local and regional Baden wines as well as international ones.

Despite its location close to the autobahn A5 - making Weingarten easily reachable by car from various directions – the region is perfect for relaxation and rich in nature: one third of the municipal area is covered with forest; wine is grown on a total of 100 hectares.
The history of winegrowing in this area dates back to Roman times. The years after Second World War then had a large formative influence on today’s wines when a redesign of vineyards supported a grape variety of higher value. Nowadays the region is best known for wines of the Pinot family, producing all kinds of Pinots.
Many hours of sunshine, moderate rainfalls and chalky soil give the popular Pinots their character; however other kinds such as Riesling or Müller-Thurgau also profit from the geological condition and the climate, shown in their rich taste and scent.
