On the other side of the river „Sitter“ you can gain an insight into the art of brewing traditional Appenzeller beer at the Locher brewery, which has been producing beer for over 100 years. In addition to the cultural highlights in Appenzell, an excursion into the alpine landscape around Appenzell provides a particularly successful change. Here the meadows covered with wildflowers, rugged mountain peaks and idyllic valleys are ideal for extensive hikes of all levels. The cable car from Wasserauen, which takes you up to Ebenalp at 1,640 meters above sea level and offers a fantastic view of the surroundings, is ideal for a relaxed ascent. The Appenzell region is also very popular with winter sports fans in winter. Cross-country skiers explore the region on over 200 kilometers of trails, and for alpine skiers and snowboarders, extensive slopes in the Ebenalp-Schwende and Kronberg ski areas have a lot to offer.
