Delightful holidays in Germany’s “red wine paradise” with Romantik Hotel & Restaurant Sanct Peter
In the heart of the idyllic Ahr valley, close to the former German capital Bonn, and nestling between forests and vineyards lies Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, health resort and city for wine lovers. In addition to its wonderful landscape, its health spa and the Ahr wines, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is known for an interesting architectural variety, from Roman town gates to elegant avenues of the times of the German Empire. The Romantik Hotels & Restaurants also take on the different architectural eras of the city and welcome their guests in two different historic buildings: the Romantik Hotel Sanct Peter in a Wilhelminian style villa and the Romantik Restaurant Brogsitter’s Sanct Peter in a guesthouse dating back to the 13th century.
The more than 100 years old, extensively renovated villa which is home to the Romantik Hotel Sanct Peter is surrounded by a garden landscape. Its garden and terrace can be used by the guests from breakfast to a drink in the evening. With its elegant rooms, daily breakfast until 12 noon, a small yet exclusive spa area and views of the surrounding vineyards, the hotel is ideal for a relaxing and delightful holiday.
The Romantik Restaurant Brogsitter's Sanct Peter is only a few steps away from the hotel, located in a more than 700 years old guesthouse. Here you can enjoy three kinds of culinary delights:
In the warm ambience of the folksy “Kaminstube”, rustic dishes and afternoon coffee are served, while the “Weinkirche” focuses on high-level regional and traditional dishes. The elegant restaurant “Brogsitter” stands for creative gourmet cuisine and is awarded a Michelin star.
The wine menu includes more than 100 regional and international wines with a strong focus on the hotel’s own wine-growing estate. The vineyard Brogsitter is one of the oldest and most renowned of its kind in Germany. Many names of the wine types (e.g. “Klosterberg” or “Domlay”) still refer to the history of the vineyard when it was, for example, the main supplier of the church in Cologne, named “Sanct Peter” back then.
Nowadays the Brogsitter vineyard’s wine type with the largest share is Pinot Noir, followed by Pinot Noir Précoce and Portugieser, with a smaller percentage of Dornfelder and Riesling. In total, 190,000 bottles are produced annually.
The Ahr valley is known as Germany’s “red wine paradise”. The wines’ distinctive character comes from the peculiar rocky landscape in the Ahr valley where the vineyards settle closely to barren looking, steep rocks. To learn more about the valley and its wines, take the “Rotweinwanderweg”, the “red wine hiking trail” which leads directly through the vineyard terraces. The trail connects several wine-growing towns and offers wonderful views of this unique landscape.
