Ambience at the Romantik Hotel Metropol
The city of St. Gallen is well-known across country borders for its monastery and Baroque cathedral as well as the abbey library, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage list. The Abbey library comprises 170,000 books of which 50’000 are shown permanently in the baroque hall.
The historic old town is decorated with impressive oriel – called Erker in German - on domestic townhouses from the 16th to 18th century. As the locals will tell you, it is worth looking up when exploring the city.
Close to the hotel Metropol is the textile museum of St. Gallen. The exhibit includes about 30’000 objects which highlight the history of embroidery from the 14th century to contemporary textile art. The museum is the landmark for the local embroidery industry, whose creations may be found on every runway for any major international fashion label.
