The historic hotel with 500 years of history is one of the most traditional buildings in the idyllic mountain town Zell am See. Although centrally located in the town, the stylish hostel is an oasis of peace and relaxation, but also a place of pleasure and enjoyment. Guests of the hotel relax in the new Emotion SPA with outdoor pool or the atmospheric rose garden and in the cosy rooms and suites.

The Hörl family, rich in tradition, are the hosts of the Romantikhotel in Zell am See. Sabine and Werner Hörl are now running the house in the fourth generation with personal hospitality. Guests should come as strangers and leave as friends. Thus, the famous quote by Wilhelm Busch has always been the core idea of the philosophy of the house: "What is the use of love, happiness and wealth, if you don't allow yourself the time to enjoy them in leisure." Attentiveness towards guests, staff, suppliers and the environment is part of everyday life at the hotel.

The inn "Zum Metzgerwirt", first mentioned in 1493, has been run as a family business for generations. The Romantikhotel Zell am See emerged from this tradition. Passionate innkeepers and hoteliers developed the hotel with great attention to detail and run the inn with a lot of emotion and commitment. In addition to traditional cuisine, international dishes are also served - so we cater to every taste.

Not only in the Romantik Hotel Zell am See, but also in politics, owner Werner Hörl, as the first green municipal representative and city councillor, is committed to sustainable projects. In the family business, not only traditions should be passed on, but also an intact environment. Therefore, sustainable investments have been made step by step. 

It all started in 2009 when the Romantikhotel Zell am See in Vienna was awarded the Austrian Ecolabel. In order to receive this certification, a large number of mandatory criteria and additional target criteria must be fulfilled. Every five years, the hotel has to undergo a new audit in order to be allowed to continue using the certification. For this reason in particular, the Hörl family strives for constant improvement. In recent years, for example, a photovoltaic system has been built, roofs have been greened, a deep borehole has been drilled to use groundwater heat, and an electric charging station has been installed for guests and staff. Even though it was a challenge to improve the thermal performance of the traditional house, which was first mentioned in 1492, some of the windows were replaced and insulation was installed. Another focus in recent years has been the heating issue; part of the hotel is now heated with gas instead of oil, while another part is supplied with wood pellets. The last purchase was an electric company car! In 2019, Romantikhotel Zell am See was awarded the "Umweltblatt Salzburg" by the province of Salzburg for all these efforts, a great recognition, as every year selected businesses are honoured for their outstanding achievements. 

But even small changes have a big impact; for example, by improving waste management, the amount of residual waste could be reduced by 3,200 kilograms (which corresponds to 20 % of the total amount).

Emotion SPA - Wellness experience on two floors

The wellness area extends over two floors: In the adults-only Emotion SPA you will find saunas of different temperatures and plenty of space to relax. True to the motto "to each his own personal sauna pleasure", there is of course also the possibility to sweat in the dress-on sauna. Soothing puffs through the indoor and outdoor pool heated to 30°C all year round, loosening massages and sophisticated pampering programs - gladly also for two - promise the necessary relaxation.

In winter, Zell am See is transformed into a true paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. There is the opportunity here for cross-country skiing, skiing or winter hiking. Only 8 kilometres away from the hotel, the glacier skiing area Kitzsteinhorn offers the very best snow conditions - all year round. Even off the slopes, active holidaymakers can expect a wide range of activities such as tobogganing, ice skating, single-stick shooting, caving and much more. Once a week, the hotel organises a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow-covered winter landscape or a fun toboggan ride.

We guarantee the rooms from 2 pm. If you arrive earlier, you are welcome to leave your luggage with us. Please contact us if you are arriving after 8:00 pm. The room is available to you on the day of departure until 11 am.

FROM GERMANY: MOTORWAY MUNICH - SALZBURG (A8)
Exit Siegsdorf. Turn right towards Zell am See via Inzell - Lofer - Saalfelden. At the entrance to Zell am See do not enter the tunnel but drive towards the centre. In the centre, stay on the main road and turn into Franz-Josef-Strasse at the second opportunity. At the end of Franz-Josef-Strasse turn right into Saalfeldnerstr. After 200m you will reach the ROMANTIKHOTEL ZELL AM SEE. You do not need an Austrian toll card ("Pickerl")!
FROM SOUTHERN AND EASTERN AUSTRIA: TAUERN MOTORWAY (A10)
Exit Bischofshofen. Take the motorway in the direction of Zell and See via St.Johann -Schwarzach. In Zell am See, after the roundabout, first go straight into the tunnel towards Zell am See - Zentrum. In the middle of the tunnel, take the Zentrum exit. After one kilometre, turn right at the first traffic lights towards the railway station and continue into Salzmannsstrasse. After approx. 500m you will reach the ROMANTIKHOTEL ZELL AM SEE.

FROM ITALY, SWITZERLAND AND WESTERN AUSTRIA: INNTAL MOTORWAY (A12)
Exit Wörgl Ost. First drive in the direction of St.Johann i.T. Then continue via Fieberbrunn to Saalfelden. At the entrance to Zell am See do not enter the tunnel but drive towards the centre. In the centre, stay on the main road and turn into Franz-Josef-Strasse at the second opportunity. At the end of Franz-Josef-Strasse turn right into Saalfeldnerstr. After 200m you will reach the ROMANTIKHOTEL ZELL AM SEE.


APPROACH VIA PASS THURN OR FELBERTAUERN                                                                  Enter the town straight across the intersection - keep right and enter the tunnel, direction Zell am See Zentrum. In the middle of the tunnel, take the Zentrum exit. After one kilometre, turn right at the first traffic lights towards the train station and continue into Salzmannsstrasse. After approx. 500m you will reach the ROMANTIKHOTEL ZELL AM SEE.

BY TRAIN
