Salzburger Land - a spacious adventure playground for everybody

The Salzburger Land is probably one of the most multifaceted holiday destinations in Austria and has established itself as well as a summer as a winter hotspot. Up to now you only know the excellent skiing regions, the varied après ski offers and maybe the nice coffee houses in the capital Salzburg, where one can relax after too much snow adventure? Then you should definitely come to the Salzburger Land in summer.

Every summer since 1920 Salzburg becomes a hotspot for the cultural interested and classical music lovers. The Salzburg Festival - this year from July 25th to August 30th - offers an interesting programme with opera, plays and concerts. Famous actors and singers from all over the world take up their roles. One of the traditional plays, which is staged every year, is the 'Everyman' by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, transforming the cathedral square into an unforgettable stage.

Two Romantik Hotels await their guests in Salzburg. On the one hand there is the Romantik Hotel Die Gersberg Alm, located high above the city. Already a popular destination during Mozarts life-time, the hotel offers its guests today a fantastic view and relaxing hours in the green. In the suburb Elixhausen you will find the Romantik Hotel Gmachl in the former taverna of the monastry Nonnberg. The oldest family enterprise in Austria combines traditional inn characteristics with country charm and the ideal location to do sight-seeing in the city of Salzburg.

Just one hour's drive from Salzburg you can find the Romantik Hotel im Weissen Rössl, known from the film of the same title. You can savour the culinary delicacies on the 'Kaiserterrasse' or enjoy the setting sun in the whirlpool on the lake - always accompanied by a breathtaking view over the Wolfgangsee.

The surrounding area of Salzburg has well much to offer. 'Salzburgisch aufgetischt' - 'Dished up Salzburgisch' - is the motto of this year's alpin summer. Let yourself be treated to traditional delicacies like alpine cheese, bread baked in a wood-fired oven, farmers' donut, mushroom goulash or dewberry nocken. Visit one of the 1,800 farmed alps in the area with thousands of cows, calves, sheep and goats. In the Grossarl valley, also known as 'valley of alps', for example additional themed hiking tours are on offer. Whether wild herbs, light and wellness or fairytale hiking tours - interesting and varied are all of them. At the Romantik Hotel Neuwirt the wishes of guests are fulfilled with many lovely details and great attention. The house-own hiking taxi 'Schnauferl' and the organic corner of the breakfast buffet are just two examples.

The area around Zell am See and Kaprun is like a huge adventure playground for all who are looking of active relaxation. Relax on board of a sailing ship or let the adrenalin flow while canyoning. Climb up the mountains in the company of llamas carrying your luggage. Quick decisions, uppermost concentration and talent for spontaneity are in demand at the ropes course, whereas the two 18-hole championship golf courses invite you to a relaxed hit in front of a unique scenery. Just 50 metres off the sea the Romantik Hotel Zell am See is the ideal starting point of various holiday activities. In the spa area you can enjoy some revitalising after all the exertion and do something good for body, mind and soul.

How to get there:
Especially from the northern and the southern direction the Salzburger Land is easy to reach by car via the Tauernautobahn. Please remember that you have to have a vignette to be allowed to use the Austrian autobahn. From many European cities you can get to Salzburg by plane (for example with Ryanair or TUIfly).
Buses and trains provide transportation to move around the Salzburger Land and enable you to make trips without a car. The various mountain railways are a good choice to get to the top and save the energy for the way down.
